Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth and can serve as a fixed replacement for missing teeth, often without the need for dental surgery. Dental bridges close the spaces and gaps in your teeth with replacements designed to look and feel as natural as your own teeth. We support the dental bridge using your healthy teeth on either side of the space or gap to be filled. Because of their safety and durability, we often offer our patients dental bridges as a non-surgical alternative to dental implants.
Benefits of Dental Bridges
While the cosmetic benefits of dental bridges are obvious, there are many other advantages to eliminating the spaces and gaps left behind from missing teeth. A missing tooth compromises the balance and strength of your bite, leaves other teeth prone to decay, increases the risk of gum disease, and can ultimately cause problems with chewing and speaking. Left untreated, these spaces and gaps also may even begin to impact other the features of the face, leading to permanent changes in the face’s contours and overall shape. Dental bridges provide you with another option for replacing the missing teeth and preventing surrounding teeth from shifting out of place. This treatment can be very beneficial for patients who are not candidates for dental implants and those who may not need full or partial sets of dentures.
Dental Bridges Procedure
Dental bridges are made of porcelain material to match the color of your natural teeth and provide a beautiful result. Utilizing dental crowns placed on either side of the missing tooth for support, a new tooth (also called a pontic) is bonded into place. This “bridge” should close the gap between your existing teeth with a very natural look and feel. The procedure for dental bridges typically requires one office visit for planning and preparation and an additional visit for the placement of the custom-designed bridge.
